5 quick fire questions with Paul Ziplinsky, Owner, Zippel’s

Why have you decided to attend The International Running Expo?

I am at the beginning of taking over my father’s business, so I have a lot to learn about the running industry and want to increase my professional network as much as possible. An event like The International Running Expo is an incredible opportunity to meet like-minded people and to see new products in action.

What are you most looking forward to about attending IRX?

I am looking forward to growing my knowledge about the running sector by attending the trends sessions. I also want to source new products to bring into store and to connect with people that share the same passion.

Are there any specific brands, technologies, or trends you’re hoping to explore while at IRX?

As I am new to taking over the business, IRX is a fantastic opportunity to help me broaden our offering to our customers. Currently we stock 11 different footwear brands and 4 apparel brands, so I’m keen to find other suppliers from technology, recovery, prevention and nutrition. Spending both days at the Expo is a must for me, as I want to really maximise the time I’m there to explore new suppliers and gain a better understanding of the European market.

How important is in-person networking and product discovery for you in today’s buying process?

In my opinion, the in-person networking is one of the most important things to do when working in the running sector. You must see the products. Try them on. Otherwise it’s very difficult to evaluate the products online and ensure they’re a good fit for your customers.

If there’s one thing you hope to take away from your time at IRX, what would it be?

I want to grow my knowledge about the industry, about how other retailers are operating in this space, and exchange ideas about the future of the running market.
